Costa Cruises installs DTS
A recent stop in the dock of the Marseille shipyard enabled Costa Cruises to upgrade the technology on board of two of its liners – the Costa Pacifica (114,500 gross register tonnage and 1,504 cabins ) and the Costa Magica (103,000 GRT, 1,358 cabins) – before the winter cruising season. Following the upgrades, the liners returned to active service, heading off to the Caribbean for their scheduled winter cruises.
THE PROJECT
On board the Pacifica, the new lighting installed in the Grand Bar Rhapsody, Aft Lounge and Atrium features a combination of LED fixtures by DTS (PROFILO LED, KATANA, Nick NRG 1201 and JED).
The MINI BRICK LED Wash lights – installed at the pools on the deck – feature great versatility: the units are powerful, self-contained, IP65-rated, housed in an ultra-compact robust case. Also, MINI BRICK is suitable for various lighting purposes, as it provides a range of projection angles quickly interchangeable.
Paolo Campanelli, Costa’s Technical Director of Entertainment, explained: “It was a source of pride for us to be able to collaborate for all these projects with Italian companies that represent ‘Italian excellence’ in entertainment, recognised worldwide, such as K-array and DTS. In a few words, to improve quality, modernity, power consumption and above all guest experience and comfort on Magica and Pacifica, we installed new audio and lighting systems in all the lounges.
Replacing conventional lights with LED fixtures ensures lower power consumption, there are no more gel filters and scrollers to change and maintain and light emission is better.”
